GÜLLÜK


 

Gulluk is a beautiful seaside town in the Prefecture of Mugla, Turkey. A few years ago, it became a Municipality. According to the last census, its population was 2,345 inhabitants.

During the touristic season, however, its population increases to about 7,000.

Güllük is a port at the south-west of the Province of Milas, on the shore of Mandalya Bay.

The inhabitants of Gulluk are occupied with the cultivation of citrus and olive trees as well as with fishing. Tourism also plays an important role in the development of this beautiful area.

The “golden dolphin”, a well-known symbol of friendship met in several legends, had its origin in Güllük.

IASSOS

Iassos is an antique town at the north-west of the bay, next to the village Kiyikislaçik. Visitors can easily go there from Güllük by boat in only a few minutes.

In this archeological site, one can see the theatre, the market-place (agora), arches, tombs, and ruins of temples.

The  town was named after Iassos, leader of the settlers from Argos, Peloponnese.
